Admissions Committee

Mission

The Mission of the Admissions Committee of American Chemical Society is to interpret applications for Society membership in the broadest manner to ensure that as many as possible with appropriate training or experience in a chemical science or in a science related to chemistry are welcomed into the Society.

Strategic Plan

The Vision of the Admissions Committee of American Chemical Society is to approve all ACS membership applications that automatically qualify and to reach a majority decision of this Committee for all applications requiring further review.

The Admissions Committee will accomplish this Vision by:

Electing all Members of the Society regardless of classification

Reviewing applications for individuals not meeting the necessary educational, residency or work experience requirements to be automatically considered for membership as provided in the ACS Constitution and Bylaws

Maintaining diverse expertise on the committee in order to secure an accurate assessment of an applicant’s qualifications for membership

Informing and advising appropriate Society bodies of trends in member applications, to enable those bodies to better meet the diverse needs of the Society through ACS policies and procedures

Fostering a close working relationship with the ACS Committee on Membership Affairs (MAC) in reviewing constitutional, bylaw and other Society changes needed to expedite membership for individuals with appropriate training or experience in a chemical science or in a science related to chemistry. This relationship will be cultivated by:

● Reviewing the current working relationship with MAC, and

● Requesting the appointment of a MAC liaison to Admissions Committee

Offering the expert knowledge of the Committee to Society dialogues on strategic alliances with other professional societies
