About the ACS Green Chemistry Institute®

Mission

The mission of the ACS Green Chemistry Institute® (ACS GCI) is to catalyze and enable the implementation of green chemistry and engineering throughout the global chemical enterprise.

History

After more than a year of planning by individuals from industry, government, and academia, the Green Chemistry Institute was incorporated in 1997 as a not-for-profit 501(c)3 corporation devoted to promoting and advancing green chemistry. On January 1, 2001, the ACS Green Chemistry Institute® became part of ACS operations in Washington, D.C. The two organizations joined to pursue their joint interests in the discovery and design of chemical products and processes that eliminate generation and use of hazardous substances.

Governance

The members of the governing board come from diverse backgrounds and experiences. They share the conviction that green chemistry is a fundamental building block in the efforts to create a sustainable economy.

International Affiliates

The ACS Green Chemistry Institute® has two dozen international chapters that participate in green chemistry education by hosting events, publishing materials, and increasing the public’s knowledge of green chemistry.

Staff

The members of ACS GCI staff come from diverse backgrounds and experiences. They share the conviction that green chemistry is a fundamental building block in the efforts to create a sustainable economy. We pursue ACS GCI’s mission in an entrepreneurial atmosphere in which individual creativity is supported and enhanced by a foundation of strong teamwork.
