International Chapters

Chemistry is an increasingly global enterprise and the American Chemical Society is working to advance chemistry around the world. One way that scientists outside the U.S. can tap into the international efforts of the ACS is to form International Chemical Sciences Chapters (ICSCs).

An ICSC can help chemists within a geographic area connect with one another and build bridges to the network of ACS members in North America and beyond. Forming a chapter brings benefits to international members beyond what they already enjoy as ACS members.

ICSCs currently operate in:

  • Saudi Arabia
The first ACS international chapter holds monthly dinner meetings and promoted chemistry in the community.
  • Hong Kong
Has sponsored a series of important regional meetings as well as prizes for best posters and presentations at a local symposium.
  • Hungary
The newest chapter has hosted ACS members as speakers and has helped organize the country’s “Day of Chemistry.”

The examples of these ICSCs indicate only some of the possibilities for creating a tight sense of community among chemists outside the U.S.

Establish a Chapter in Your Region

The ACS encourages its international members to consider forming an ICSC as a means of staying connected with scientists in their region, and with the ACS membership around the world.
