The ACS Office of Public Affairs (OPA) and its programs:
- develop and promote public policies that advance the chemical enterprises and its practitioners, as called for in the ACS congressional charter.
- encourage strong member participation in advocacy and communicating with community leaders and the media.
- conduct educational activities aimed at expanding policymakers' knowledge of scientific and technical issues.
ACS members are important partners in these government affairs and communication efforts.
Several ACS governance committees are instrumental in shaping ACS public policies and promoting public relations to enhance society’s appreciation for the chemical sciences.
