Global Activities and Events

ACS organizes and sponsors a variety of events including conferences, symposia and workshops to provide chemists with opportunities for international collaboration and professional advancement. Please visit this site often for updates on recent and upcoming events that cross regions.

ACS Committee on International Activities (IAC) Meetings at the US Department of State

The IAC Chair and IAC Subcommittee Chairs met with high level officials from the US Department of State in order to discuss ways that the ACS and executive branch agencies could cooperate to advance mutual goals and initiatives.

Chemical Sciences and Society Symposia (CS3)

The Chemical Sciences and Society Symposium (CS3) series has been developed collaboratively through meetings involving the funding agencies and chemical societies of the United States, Japan, Germany, the United Kingdom and China.

The CS3 is designed to convene eminent high level researchers from the United States, Germany, Japan, China and the United Kingdom to explore frontier chemistry research, develop mutually beneficial collaborations for the future, and identify opportunities for multilateral alignment of research priorities and the creation of new, systematic opportunities for international research collaborations to address global challenges.

In addition to collaboration and networking, the major outcome of each symposium will be the creation of an advisory White Paper. The White Paper will be generated from outcomes of symposium discussions, and will be written for an audience of policy-makers in government and industry, to provide guidelines for research, development and implementation of new technologies. The meeting has the potential to be of great value to the global chemistry enterprise and to the world at large.

The first CS3 meeting took place in Kloster Seeon, Germany in July of 2009. The topic identified for this pilot program under CS3 is solar energy, with a symposium theme: Sunshine to Power the World.

For details regarding the symposium, please see the C&EN article published August 3, 2009.
