Green Chemistry Education and Outreach

Green Chemistry Education and Outreach programs support academic, government and industry sectors in developing and implementing sustainable science and technology so that experts make chemicals and chemically-based products safer and cleaner.

Impact

  • In 2001, there were no educational materials on green chemistry available to educators beyond technical reference books. By 2006, ACS had produced seven publications for chemical educators to use to teach green chemistry in their courses.

  • ACS receives requests for green chemistry educational materials from faculty around the world. The ACS Green Chemistry Institute® connects with over 2,100 chemists and engineers in more than 50 countries.

  • There have been 53 ACS Student Affiliates recognized as Green Chemistry Chapters to date and the popular program receives an increasing number of applicants each year.

  • Each year international registration at the ACS Green Chemistry and Engineering Conference continues to expand and green chemistry symposia consistently increase at ACS National Meetings.
