ACS Scholars Program
Scholars Program Instrumental to
Dr. Mosley’s Career in Chemistry
“The scholarship has had a cascading effect. If not for it, I wouldn’t be in the position I am today, a post-doctoral researcher at the FDA, working on a bacterial vaccine against e-coli. That influence will stay with me for the duration of my career. Now, I mentor an ACS Scholar, helping her through her first year of graduate school.”
Sylvester L. Mosley, Ph.D.
ACS Scholar 1995-1998

Mentor to ACS Scholar
The ACS Scholars Program helps underrepresented minority students to pursue undergraduate degrees and careers in the chemical and engineering sciences.
Students in the program demonstrate financial need and high academic achievement.
The award-winning ACS Scholars Program offers scholarships, mentoring and, when possible, internship opportunities for each participant.
Impact
- The scholarship provides a prestigious line on the resumes of these young scientists. Many of the Scholars program alumni have entered the chemical science workforce, both in academe and in industry.
- Scholars program alumni have gone to work at companies such as Lockheed Martin, Procter & Gamble, DuPont, Merck, Johnson & Johnson, IBM Research, and ExxonMobil.
Support the ACS Scholars Program
Your gift to the ACS Scholars Program goes directly to fund scholarships for undergraduate students pursuing degrees in the chemical and engineering sciences.

- Former ACS Scholar Julia James, an undergraduate biochemistry major, was named Rhodes Scholar in 2003.
- More than 46% of Scholars program alumni chose to pursue advanced degrees, and half of those reached or are reaching for a Ph.D.
- There are 51 former ACS Scholars confirmed Ph.D.’s. Of those, seven have joined university faculty and 14 are currently in Post-Doc positions. Most of them are now mentoring ACS Scholars currently in the program.
