Project SEED gives economically disadvantaged high school students the transforming experience of a summer job working in academic, government, and industrial research labs with volunteer scientist mentors.
Mentors oversee just one or two SEED students, giving them individualized attention and offering guidance on education and career plans. The students work hands-on, doing college-level research in state-of-the-art laboratories. As these new worlds are opened to them, they are inspired to reach their true potential.
90% of SEED students plan to go on to college. That’s an especially striking success when you compare these students – most of whom are minorities - with just 20% of African-American students and just 16% of Hispanic students who leave high school college-ready.
Now imagine how many more young people have potential that could be ignited by Project SEED. That’s why ACS needs your help to grow the program to unlock the door for a new generation that will take chemical sciences into the future.
How many of tomorrow’s talented scientists can we afford to lose?
