Carl S. Marvel Creative Polymer Chemistry Award

Purpose - recognize and encourage accomplishments or innovation of unusual merit in the field of basic or applied polymer science by younger scientists.

Eligibility - must be a POLY member or affiliate at the time of nomination, must have accomplished outstanding work in basic or applied polymer science, and shall not have reached 45th birthday on January 1 of the year of the award, granted without regard to race, color, national origin, sex, religion, disability, or sexual orientation.


Herman F. Mark Division of Polymer Chemistry Award

Purpose-recognize outstanding research and leadership in polymer science

Eligibility - must be a POLY member or affiliate, consideration given to outstanding research accomplishments and contributions to the advancement of polymer science through teaching, research, technical leadership, and scientific writings, granted without regard to race, color, national origin, sex, religion, age, disability, or sexual orientation.


Paul J. Flory Polymer Education Award

Purpose - recognize, encourage, and stimulate outstanding achievements by an individual in promoting undergraduate or graduate polymer education

Eligibility - must be a POLY member or affiliate at the time of nomination, granted for significant contributions in furthering polymer education without regard to race, color, national origin, sex, religion, age, disability, or sexual orientation.

Joint POLY/PMSE POLYED Award


Public Perception of Polymers Grant

Purpose - encourage projects aimed at the improvement of the image of polymers in the eyes of the general public

Eligibility - made to groups for innovative approaches to this objective.


Polymer Curriculum Development Award

Purpose - encourage an innovative approach to improve the teaching of polymer chemistry and polymer engineering in existing curricula at U. S. colleges and universities

Eligibility - made to groups for innovative approaches to this objective.


POLY Industrial Sponsors Award

Purpose - recognize outstanding industrial innovation and creativity in the application of polymer science, conducted by individual scientists or research teams

Eligibility - selected on the basis of creative polymer science conducted at any industrial research facility, aspects of the work must have been published in the open literature, which includes either patents or technical journals, granted for furthering industrial polymer science without regard to race, color, national origin, sex, religion, disability, or sexual orientation.


Excellence in Polymer Education by a High School or Junior High School Teacher


ICI Student Award in Applied Polymer Science

Purpose - recognize outstanding graduate students of applied polymer science

Eligibility - graduate students, either currently in graduate school, or not more than 1 yr beyond graduation, are invited to submit a research paper for presentation.


National Starch and Chemical Award for Outstanding Graduate Research in Polymer Chemistry

Purpose - recognizes a graduate student or recent graduate who has completed an outstanding PhD thesis in research accepted by a US or Canadian university during the 3-yr period prior to January 1 of the award year

Eligibility - will be judged on contribution to the thesis research, the quality and level of innovation demonstrated, and the impact of the research on the science of synthetic polymers or biopolymers, advisor recognized in all publications about the award and during the award presentation, nominations must be made by the thesis supervisor or others familiar with the nominee's work.
