History of Equipping the 2015 Chemical Technology Workforce

To help technicians meet the changes and challenges ahead, the Committee on Technician Affairs (CTA), the Division of Chemical Technicians (TECH), the Committee on Economic and Professional Affairs (CEPA), and ChemTechLinks began collaborating on Equipping the 2015 Chemical Technology Workforce in 2006.

The initiative officially kicked off on September 12, 2006, with a Presidential Event at the 232nd ACS National Meeting in San Francisco. The Event was sponsored by TECH and co-sponsored by:

Division of Chemical Education

Division of Business Development and Management

Division of Professional Relations

Division of Industrial & Engineering Chemistry

Society Committee on Education

Committee on Corporation Associates and their member companies

Committee on Economic and Professional Affairs

Committee on Science

Committee on Technician Affairs

Over 75 people attended the Event. Discussion summaries, presentations, and reports can be found on the Chemical Technology Reports page. To keep the initiative moving forward, the Equipping the 2015 Chemical Technology Workforce task force began awarding mini-grants in Spring 2007 to help support collaborative activities focused on technician education and professional development. The mini-grant program continues to this day.
