Chemists Celebrate Earth Day Community Event

Be Creative; Take Action
ACS encourages you to organize your own unique activities to promote recycling that can be relevant and engaging within your community. Do something sustainable that has a direct impact on where you live.
Below are some suggestions on where to begin:
- Donate money you make from recycling to a charitable organization.
- Organize a “Recycling Challenge” event whereby teams (formed by class, grade, school, etc.) compete to determine who can collect the most items to recycle.
- Hold a scavenger hunt for recyclables. Use the recycling codes on batteries, glass, and plastics to identify specific types of materials used. Other recyclables to include are aluminum cans, batteries, light bulbs, metals, and paper. These materials are then collected for a recycling drive.
- Host a Science Café centering on the theme of recycling.
- Request a group tour of your local recycling facility. Contact your local recycling or waste management facility for details.
- Perform hands-on activity demonstrations for the public at local venues, such as malls, schools, and libraries.
- Be creative and organize your own innovative or engaging event. You section may nominate the event for one of two ChemLuminary Awards. Contact your local section officer for details.
