ACS Honors Volunteers in Philadelphia

The 14th Annual ChemLuminary Awards celebration was held in conjunction with the ACS National Meeting in Philadelphia, PA on August 21, 2012 Approximately 400 chemists came together to recognize local sections, regional meetings, committees, and divisions that received accolades for their tireless efforts and work in promoting chemistry and the chemical sciences during 2011.

ACS President Bassam Shakhashiri opened the event with welcoming remarks and the presentation of 42 awards that included the ACS Volunteer Service Award to Ingrid Montes, and the Helen M. Free Award for Public Outreach to Ron Perkins. Prior to the awards presentation, 50 posters were presented by award finalists that reflected those outstanding activities being recognized. Immediately following the presentation, the celebration continued with dancing until midnight.

All ChemLuminary Award nominations are submitted by self-nomination via annual reports. For outstanding events or activities sponsored during 2012, self-nominations must be submitted by February 15, 2013 at www.acs.org/FORMS.
