Europe Resources
We have compiled these resources to assist chemists living and working in Europe and/or interested in collaborating with European colleagues.
- International Research Experience for Undergraduates (IREU)
The American Chemical Society won a grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to offer an international research experience program for undergraduate students. Our partners are the German Academic Exchange Service and specific universities in the European Chemistry Thematic Network.
In 2008 - 2010, U.S. undergraduates are able to apply for paid summer research internships at universities around Germany, and in specific universities in France, Italy, and the United Kingdom. Students from Germany and our partner universities are eligible to apply for paid summer research experiences at sites around the United States.
- 2009 World Chemical Outlook
Chemical and Engineering News (C&EN) has published the 2009 World Chemical Outlook on Europe.
- English for a Specific Purpose (ESP:C)
ESP:C is a product of the European Union and provides English language training for chemists.
- EURAXESS
EURAXESS is a networking tool for European researchers in the United States. It provides information about research and research policy in Europe, funding opportunities, international collaboration and transnational mobility. Membership is free.
- Fulbright Scholar Programs and Grants
The Fulbright Scholar Program, administered by the Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CISE), offers a unique opportunity for American scholars to conduct research, lecture and attend seminars overseas. Several programs exist for U.S. and non-U.S. scholars, alumni and institutions.
- Research Internships in Science and Engineering (RISE)
Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst (DAAD), the German Academic Exchange Service, pairs undergraduates with German Ph.D. students and gives them the opportunity to work on cutting-edge research projects at some of the top research institutions (e.g. Max-Planck-Institutes) and universities in Germany. This unique mentoring partnership ensures immediate integration into the work in the lab, a built-in social network, and an excellent opportunity to develop new technical skills. Reports from past participants as well as detailed project descriptions and application materials in English and German are available online.
ACS Technology Milestones Program (TMP)
In 2007 the Hungarian Chemical Society translated and circulated throughout Hungary content from the ACS Technology Milestones Program (TMP) developed under the presidency of Dr. Attila Pavlath on the occasion of the 125th Anniversary of the ACS. The objective of the TMP is to demonstrate how chemistry has contributed to the quality of our lives. For information on the Hungarian version of TMP, click on the following links:
