Annual Reporting for Local Sections

Filing the Annual Report

Why should I file an annual report?

  • To review your activities during the past year, evaluate your programs, and highlight areas for possible growth
  • To communicate your accomplishments in relation to the overall goals of ACS to the Local Section Activities Committee (LSAC)
  • To keep a record of your section’s current experiences for the benefit of future leaders in your local section
  • To share successes to assist other local sections in program and activity planning
  • To self-nominate for ChemLuminary awards
  • To meet the requirement to receive your annual allotment
  • To fulfill requirements in the ACS Constitution and Bylaws

How do I file?

Submit your annual reports online:

SOLAR v2.0 (Submit Online Annual Reports)

SOLAR is a web-based application that allows local section officers to complete and submit their annual reports over the Internet.

Local section chairs, chair-elects and councilors will receive instructions for using SOLAR along with user IDs and passwords to access the system. Local section chairs will also receive "generic passwords" that they can issue to members that are assigned responsibility for completing portions of the annual report.

Which Parts Should I File?

All local sections are eligible to file EZ, unless they would like to self-nominate for an ACS local section award.

Who prepares the annual report?

Completing the annual report requires a coordinated effort by various volunteer members of the local section governance. The steps in preparing the report, along with roles and responsibilities are:

  1. Executive board, including councilor, meets and decides which parts to file
  2. Board and councilors consult and write preliminary and final drafts
  3. Section chair assures the report is complete and accurate
  4. Chair, chair-elect, and one councilor approve the report
  5. Section chair submits report online

When is the annual report due?

Annual reports must be entered into SOLAR by February 15 each year.

Can I get an extension?

A one-month extension may be granted if you are unable to complete your annual report by February 15. Submit the Part I (Questionnaire) only online, and send an email to olsa@acs.org to request an extension to March 15.
