Meeting Updates

Due to a fire in the warehouse district, the city shut down electricity to areas. The Marriott CC, Hilton Garden Inn and Loews have been impacted. All other locations have power.

Technical sessions are being moved from the Marriott CC to the Center. If your session has been moved, please stop by the ACS Operations Office at the Convention Center, Rm. 224 for more information.

The following sessions have been moved from the Marriott CC to the Convention Center:

Plenary Session Speaker Change
Walter Rakitsky
, VP Strategy & Emerging Business, Solazyme, Inc. will discuss a versatile renewable oil technology platform for bio-based products using algae, which can transform low-cost plant-based sugars into a multitude of high-value tailored oils and specialty products. Walter Rakitsky replaces Harrison Dillon, CEO of Solazyme, Inc., who was originally scheduled for the Plenary session.

The location of the Communicating Chemistry: Cajun Cooking (C4) competition has changed. Dickie Brennan's Tableau will not be open by Tuesday April 9th due to some issues with city permitting. The new location for the event will be *Dickie Brennan's Steakhouse*, located at 716 Iberville St in the French Quarter.

If attendees go to the original location, there will be a Dickie Brennan's representative at Tableau to steer you the right direction (4 blocks away on Royal St). The remainder of the agenda will be unchanged. Seating will start at 10:30AM, Tuesday, April 9th.

ΑΧΣ Professional Chemistry Fraternity Luncheon
Collegiate & Professional Branch Brothers of ΑΧΣ Professional Chemistry Fraternity attending the 245th ACS National Meeting & Exposition in New Orleans, LA are cordially invited to our traditional, social luncheon on Tuesday, April 9 starting at 11:30 AM. The luncheon is an opportunity to meet and dine with fellow Brothers, both locally and from around the nation.

Cost is $25 and is payable at the luncheon. Collegiate members attend as guests of the Fraternity (read as FREE). Guests of Brothers are also welcomed. Mulate’s is located directly across the street from the Convention Center at the corner of Julia St. and Convention Center Blvd. They are known as the original Cajun restaurant and their lunch menu includes everything you’d expect including alligator, gumbo, and blackened catfish.
