Use of the bronchodilator and stimulant ephedrine [(1R,2S)-2-(methylamino-1-phenylpropan-1-ol] by athletes is banned at the Olympic Games. Its 1S,2S isomer is the common nasal decongestant pseudoephedrine, so the sniffling at award ceremonies might not just be emotional.
