Dopamine is a neurotransmitter, or chemical messenger, that plays a key role in controlling movement, the ability to feel pleasure and pain, and emotional response. Too little dopamine activity leads to the tremors and motor disorders symptomatic of Parkinson’s disease. Excessive dopamine activity has been linked to several medical disorders, including schizophrenia.
