I’m trying to create an ACS ID. After I enter my ACS member number, I see this error message: “An ACS ID has already been created for that number.” What should I do?
This message means there is an existing account that uses the member number you entered. We permit only one account per member number.
We can send you your user name and a new password to access the existing account. Go to Forgot User Name or Password, and enter the email address you used to register.

The system doesn’t recognize my user name/ACS ID.

To get a temporary password and/or retrieve your user name:
* Go to our Forgot User Name/Password tool.
* Enter the email address you used when you created your account.
* We’ll send a temporary password and user name to the email address we have on file for you.
I cannot log in with the temporary password.
Both the user name and password are case sensitive (i.e., MaryWild is not the same as marywild). It may be easier to use the copy and paste functions to ensure you are using the correct case.

I used the automated Forgot User name/Password tool, but I never received my temporary password.
Check your spam filter for a message with the subject line “Your new www.acs.org password.” You should also enable receipt of messages from webmaster@acs.org.

Log in to www.acs.org/editmyprofile. Update your email address, then click the "OK" button at the bottom of the screen.

Format my user name and password.
Your user name and password must be a combination of 4 to 16 characters and may include letters, numbers, and the following special characters: underscore (_), hyphen (-), period (.), and the at symbol (@). They cannot include space(s).
Both the user name and password are case sensitive (i.e., MaryWild is not the same as marywild).
Need my ACS member number.
Use our online lookup tool to find your member number. You can also find your member number on your membership card and on the mailing label of your copy of C&EN. It is either the first seven or first eight numbers on your mailing label. The following information helps to determine your membership number:
Seven digits followed by an alphabetical character.
Example: 1234567X.
In this case, drop the alphabetical character at the end and add a zero to the front.
Example: 01234567.
Seven digits followed by a space and several more digits.
Example: 1234567 432.
In this case, enter only the first 7-digits.
Example: 1234567.
Eight digits with no alphabetical characters
In this case, enter all eight digits.
Example: 01343444.
