WASHINGTON, Feb. 9, 2009 — News media covering the chemical sciences are invited to join an American Chemical Society (ACS) Careers Industry Forum teleconference on how today’s economy could affect future employment in the chemical industry.
Scheduled for 2 – 3 p.m. Eastern time on Feb. 12, the teleconference will feature William F. Carroll, Jr., Ph.D., ACS President in 2005 and currently an at-large member of the ACS Board of Directors. Outside his ACS responsibilities, Carroll is Vice President of Chlorovinyl Issues for OxyChem and an adjunct professor of chemistry at Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind.
The topic for the teleconference is “Anticipating the Future: 2015 and Beyond.” Carroll will address the changes in employment and the economy in light of recent events while using reports generated during his ACS presidency in 2005 that predicted some current workplace trends.
The series of teleconferences continues monthly into 2009, according to Liane Gould, manager of career services for ACS, which has more than 160,000 members. There will be a 30-minute discussion with Carroll followed by a 25-minute Q & A session.
News media can tune into the conference without charge, but must register in advance at the ACS Careers Web site, which also provides information about future forums. For additional information about upcoming speakers, click on the ACS Careers Industry Forum tab located at the top of the ACS Careers Blog.
