Revision of the ACS Guidelines for Chemistry Programs in Two-Year Colleges

A task force of the Society Committee on Education is charged with coordinating the revision and dissemination of the third edition of the Guidelines for Chemistry Programs in Two-Year Colleges.

We would like your input on the Draft Guidelines. Please send your comments to commcollchem@acs.org.

Tentative Goals for Revision

  1. Reflect changes in pedagogy, technology, accountability
  2. Facilitate student transfer
  • by aligning with the revised ACS Guidelines for Bachelor’s Programs
  • by calling for communicating with receiving institutions
  1. Provide a more useful resource for strengthening programs
  • by offering guidance for ongoing curricular change
  • by offering guidance for improving the working environment

Revision Process (tentative timeline)

  • Gather input from two- and four-year programs
    (Spring 2006-Summer 2007)
  • Prepare summary of proposed revisions
    (Fall 2007-Winter 2008)
  • Obtain feedback on summary of proposed changes
    (Spring 2008)
  • Hold writing session
    (May 2008)
  • Obtain feedback on draft guidelines
    (Summer 2008)
  • Release revised guidelines
    (Spring 2009)
  • Disseminate revised guidelines
    (ongoing)
