Mr. Auer is the Director of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Pollution Prevention and Toxics (OPPT), and as such is responsible for the U.S. new and existing chemicals programs, chemical testing, and efforts to address national priority chemicals such as asbestos, lead, and mercury. His office is also responsible for oversight of new and existing chemical nanomaterials.

OPPT has a lead role in promoting pollution prevention both within the agency and with States, industry, and environmental communities. The office is also responsible for numerous successful collaborative, voluntary efforts such as the High Production Volume (HPV) Challenge Program, Green Chemistry, Design for the Environment, and the Perfluorooctanoic Acid Stewardship Program. Mr. Auer has broad international experience with the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, and has had extensive bilateral interaction with the European Union, Canada, Japan, and other major U.S. trading partners. He played a major role in representing the U.S. in the successful negotiation of the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants.
