Dr. Schierow is an environmental policy specialist in the Resources, Science, and Industry Division of the Congressional Research Service, where she has worked since 1991. She works on issues related to the federal regulation of chemicals in U.S. commerce (including nanoparticles), environmental risk analysis, environmental justice, and scientific controversies regarding the risks of specific chemical exposures. Dr. Schierow has published numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals. She was a founding member and president of the Risk Assessment and Policy Association and served on the editorial advisory board of its journal, and is a member of the Society for Risk Analysis. Prior to working for CRS, Dr. Schierow was a research associate at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, an assistant professor of environmental health at the University of Oklahoma, an instructor and research assistant at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a private contractor to the University of Maryland, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and the U.S.-Canada International Joint Commission.
