Day-long workshops on the use of computers in process technology industries. Aimed at high school and college educators, the workshops will cover both theory and practice of using computers for controlling and simulating process operations. |

An introductory course on bio-fuels. The hybrid course (on-line lecture, in-house lab) will be open to chemical technology students, as well as working technicians, and will address a growing field in the Cincinnati area. |
An Opportunity to Investigate the World of Chemical and Process Technology |
Luncheon and open house event to introduce high school students and displaced workers to opportunities in chemical and process technology. Participants will be able to examine some common equipment, learn about opportunities in local industry, and talk with career counselors. |
Group Theory and Bonding |
Networking unit in general chemistry curriculum. A unit on networking will be added to the first-year chemistry course in the college’s Chemical Technology program. Students will learn about and practice networking as a vital career skill. |

Workshop on the latest techniques in analyzing local water for pharmaceuticals and other persistent organic contaminants. Students, technicians, and other academic and industry representatives will have the opportunity to interact and learn about these emerging hazards. Contacts made during the workshop will be used to form a Water Chemistry Alliance. |
Chemical Laboratory Technician Major—Student Employability Project Expansion |
All-day student retreat to focus on employability skills. The retreat will feature a panel discussion with industry representatives, resume reviews, and mock interviews. Students will have the opportunity to interact with local employers and learn about industry needs. |

Video Project: Process Technology in the Great Lakes Region |
A series of video vignettes on the broad spectrum of process technology opportunities available in the Great Lakes region. The videos will be used to recruit students to the process technology programs served by the Great Lakes Process Technology Alliance (GLPTA). |
Career Development Talks |
A series of talks on career opportunities for chemical technology students and newly employed technicians. Technicians at the tops of their career ladders will discuss the knowledge and skills needed to reach their positions. |
BioTech Community Day |
A biotechnology outreach day. Geared toward high school students and adult/displaced workers, the event will highlight local opportunities for technicians and Piedmont’s biotechnology program. Chemical demonstrations and tours of the BioNetwork Mobile Laboratory will be included. |
Applied Chemical Technology Professionals Summit |
A summit to identify ways in which ACS can best engage the applied chemical technology community. Participants will represent key sectors of ACS membership, divisions, and staff. The changing role of applied chemical technology professionals in ACS and the chemical enterprise and how ACS can engage this community throughout these changes will be discussed. |

An interactive event highlighting technician careers. Local Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) technicians will give poster and oral presentations on their work to interested students and community members. The event will end with a networking reception and door prizes. |

A student outreach program focusing on careers in chemical technology. The program will feature a symposium and panel discussion on chemical technology, a tour of a local manufacturing/research facility, and a networking social for students. |

“Establishment of a Chemical Technology Club at NTID/RIT” |
A chemical technology club for students at NTID/RIT. The club, run by students of the Laboratory Science Technology program, will sponsor field trips to local businesses and seminars by guest speakers. The club will also perform demonstrations at local science fairs and schools for deaf and hard-of-hearing students. |

Chemical Technician Advancement and Enhancement |
A symposium at the 235th ACS National Meeting in New Orleans highlighting technicians’ work and career opportunities for technicians. Because technicians frequently lack employer support for meeting travel, travel grants will be provided for qualified technicians. In addition to presentations, panel discussions will be used to identify the needs of working technicians and how ACS and TECH can support them better. |
