Past Innovative Projects by ACS Technical Divisions
BIOT developed a division-specific web portal for outreach to high school students, teachers, and guidance councilors, which provide suggestions for career opportunities in the BIOT field, as well as educational resources to enhance knowledge of that field.
CHAL improved the CHAL website to make the CHAL Legal Evaluation Service more convenient and user-friendly for site users.
CINF created an international depository of chemical information educational material for educators and instructors.
FUEL developed a web portal for public education and outreach to introduce basic concepts and applications of science in the fields of energy and fuel.
HIST established an archive and prepared a finding guide for the archives. Also, they increased archive holdings by soliciting materials from HIST’s membership. This process provides a model for other divisions’ potential archives.
NUCL contributed extensively to the 2007 Spring ACS thematic programming initiative entitled “Chemistry for a Sustainable Energy Future”. Funding helped to increase graduate student participation and to invite non-member national and international experts to the multi-disciplinary symposia.
This gala event was designed to honor and recognize ACS members and volunteers for their tremendous efforts on behalf of the Society.
The following divisions were honored for their innovative and outstanding service to their members at the 236th ACS National Meeting in Philadelphia:
Chemical Education (CHED)
Chem Ed sponsored Region Awards that represent a major form of recognition for high school chemistry teachers. They also recognized collaborative programming and cooperation at Regional Meetings.
Chemical Technicians (TECH)
A recognition dinner for volunteer service was hosted by TECH at the 234th ACS National Meeting where awards were presented for volunteer service, corporate support, and to Technician Affiliate Groups. Also the Division's first Michael Shea Achievement Award was presented to Past ACS President Bill Carroll.
Industrial and Engineering Chemistry (I&EC)
In 2007, I&EC inaugurated the Division Fellows Awards that recognized one chemist and one engineer who made significant contributions in academia, industry, or government. The Fellows were honored with a symposium at a national meeting.
