Volunteer Engagement and Recognition (VE&R) Subcommittee
Committee on Community Activities (CCA)
The mission of the Volunteer Engagement and Recognition Subcommittee is to increase participation in community-based programs by encouraging volunteer efforts and recognizing significant achievements. Its major three-year goals are to:
- Strengthen in-reach efforts to better enable and recognize member involvement and participation
- Develop new ways to engage individuals in CCA/OCA activities outside of existing structure/processes
- Strengthen recognition of member involvement and participation
Objectives
The VER subcommittee’s specific objectives, as determined during 2006 by the Executive Committee, include:
- Involve individuals from high schools, etc. who are knowledgeable about alternative technologies, social networking, etc
- “Age outreach” Silver Circle, YCC, WCC
- Improve nomination process for ChemLuminaries to increase # of nominees
- Implement training and mentoring that is easily accessible for coordinators and other volunteers
- Expand outreach beyond local sections and expand focus beyond local sections to divisions and regions
- Look at new opportunities to recognize members
- Develop an incentive system for ACS member involvement
- Explore/create simple recognition tools
- Involve members of minority backgrounds in doing outreach into their known communities
