How It Works

The Investment Pool operates like a mutual fund. Participants invest funds in the Investment Pool, the funds are combined and invested, and each participant receives shares representing a pro rata ownership of the Pool. Interest and dividends are distributed monthly on a per share basis, as are investment gains/losses.

Investment Objective

The primary investment objective of the ACS Investment Pool is to earn a real, or inflation-adjusted, total annual return of 5.5%. A secondary objective is to generate a minimum income yield of 4.0% per annum to support Society Programs as well as activities of participating local sections and divisions.

Strategy

  • Diversified investment portfolio with a normal allocation of 60% in stocks, 38% in bonds, and 2% in cash equivalents. Market conditions may result in stock holdings ranging from a minimum of 50% to a maximum of 70% of total assets.
  • Risk profile is that of a long-term investor. Volatility in market value is tolerated as long as there are reasonable expectations the fund will achieve the desired return over the long run.
  • ACS tax-exempt status extends to the Investment Pool. Accordingly, the fund does not utilize tax-exempt securities or tax-sheltered investments.
  • Purchase or liquidation of shares is available on a monthly basis.
  • Low expense ratio of approximately 0.30% of assets in order to maximize the net after-fee return.
