Green Chemistry: Innovations for a Cleaner World
This 15-minute video was developed through a cooperative agreement between the American Chemical Society (ACS)'s Education Division and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Green Chemistry Program, Office of Pollution Prevention and Toxics. It focuses on chemical products and processes that reduce or eliminate the use and generation of hazardous substances, thereby producing a cleaner environment.

Green Chemistry: Meeting Global Challenges
Green chemistry is a set of principles and practices that aim to reduce the generation and use of hazardous materials in chemical products and processes. It is sometimes characterized as 'preventative medicine' for the environment. By incorporating green chemical principles into the chemistry curriculum, educators can provide students with a positive message about what chemists are doing for the environment and introduce them to this emerging area of chemical research.
Green Chemistry: Meeting Global Challenges provides a record of four highly illustrative presentations made at the 2002 Green Chemistry and Engineering Conference. These presentations show how green chemistry can address global challenges such as reducing the use of toxic chemicals, mitigating the risk of climate change, limiting water and resource depletion, and meeting growing demands for energy and food. It was developed through a cooperative project of the American Chemical Society's (ACS) Green Chemistry Institute and the ACS Education Division with support from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Pollution Prevention and Toxics.
Instructors can use this DVD to supplement undergraduate or graduate chemistry curricula and to enhance students' knowledge of the relationship between green chemistry and sustainable development. Discussion questions provided with this DVD highlight and reinforce some of the more important concepts in the presentations. These questions can serve as a starting point for classroom discussion or regular course work. An instructor could also use the DVD to learn more about green chemistry applications and show how they relate to topics covered in traditional topics in the curriculum.
