The ACS Committee on Local Section Activities has a 2010 goal of assisting local sections with providing professional development opportunities for their members. The ACS Leadership Development System provides local sections with an opportunity to help their members to develop critical leadership skills that are useful in the workplace and in their volunteer roles.
As you plan your 2010 section programming, please consider hosting one or more of the four-hour facilitated ACS Leadership Development System courses in your section or during an ACS regional meeting (you will need to contact the regional meeting planners in your region).
The following four-hour facilitated courses are available for your consideration for your 2010 programming:
The four-hour facilitated courses are $150 per member and $300 for non-members. However, with a $3000 Leadership Development Grant from LSAC, you could offer a course for at least 20 of your local section members at no charge. You may use the grant(s) to sponsor scholarships for ACS members within your section or a neighboring section who wish to take the course(s) during your section’s program. Participants will register and pay for the course(s) through the ACS Center for Professional Development and the local section would be responsible for administering the scholarships (reimbursements).
If you choose to include one or more courses in your local section’s program, the cost to the section is essentially zero (a grant application must be submitted for each proposed offering). We ask that the local section provide the meeting room, a screen, and flip charts for either an 8:00 am -12:00 pm or 1:00 pm -5:00 pm timeframe. The ACS Leadership Advisory Board on Leadership Development will provide a trained facilitator (paying for the travel expenses), all course materials, a computer, and an LCD projector. Local sections are responsible for publicizing the course(s) to their membership. The local section will also be responsible for selecting the date and time of the course. Note that registrations for the courses must be made via the Center for Professional Development’s Learning Management System.
