Mark your calendars for one of the year’s largest and most important scientific events — the annual fall meeting of the American Chemical Society (ACS). With more than 160,000 members, ACS is the world’s largest scientific society.

The 236th ACS national meeting will be held in Philadelphia, PA at the Pennsylvania Convention Center and more than a dozen hotels across the city. More than 14,000 scientists are expected to attend, presenting more than 8,000 presentations on new discoveries in chemistry. Those presentations span science’s horizons from astronomy to zoology, including thematic programming around "Chemistry for Health: Catalyzing Translational Research."

Media representatives that are approved for accreditation may pick up credentials during the ACS Press Center hours of operation.

The Press Center will be located on the main bridge of the Pennsylvania Convention Center. It will include ACS’ LiveChat press briefing room; media workroom with wireless Internet, telephones, computers, copy, and fax services; and refreshments. Press materials, which include a CD-ROM of the meeting abstracts, non-technical summaries of scientific reports, and a press briefing schedule, will be available online in advance of the meeting and in the press center registration area.

Accommodations in Philadelphia

Hotel reservations can be made online, by telephone or by mail through The Housing Connection, a housing bureau out of Salt Lake City, selected as the official ACS Housing Bureau for the Philadelphia National Meeting. To obtain the special ACS rates, hotel reservations MUST be made through The Housing Connection and cannot be made directly with the hotel. The deadline for housing is Friday, July 25, 2008.

Meeting Locations

During the Philadelphia meeting, Attendee Registration, the National Exposition, poster sessions, and many technical sessions will be held at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. Additional technical sessions will be held at the Philadelphia Marriott, Crown Plaza, Radisson Plaza, Doubletree, Courtyard by Marriott, Sheraton, Hilton Garden Inn and the Loews.

Complimentary shuttle service will be provided between the Pennsylvania Convention Center and various hotels.

ACS LiveChat Press Briefing Center

For reporters unable to travel to Philadelphia, the ACS News Service will provide access to press conferences on the Internet, with live video and audio and offer an enhanced media kit with hundreds of non-technical summaries of the presentations, news releases and other resources. The media kit, with embargoed content, will be available in August.
