Methyl salicylate

Methyl salicylate produces the familiar odor and flavor of oil of wintergreen. This chemical relative of aspirin also relieves the inflammation that causes headaches and muscle pain. Concentrated methyl salicylate is toxic, especially to children, but small amounts may be used as flavorings and in topical creams.
