www.acs.org account cleanup

The ACS has identified approximately 100,000 www.acs.org accounts that have not been used since February 2007. In order to prepare for the implementation of some new systems later this year, we are cleaning our database of inactive web accounts. These new systems will allow us to provide you, our users, with new and improved website services.

Questions you may have:

Q: Why do I have to log in now?

A: Asking you to log in to www.acs.org with your existing account allows us to mark your www.acs.org account as active and ensures it is included as we move forward with plans to implement new systems and reduce the number of user names and passwords later this year.

Q: How do I log in to www.acs.org?

A: Click the login link in the upper-right hand corner of your screen and enter your user name and password. If you have forgotten either, please click on the “Forgot Your Password?” link and furnish your email address.

It’s possible that you have more than one www.acs.org account. Also, you may have logged in to one of the many ACS web sites that we have, including ChemJobs, ACS Publications, and C&EN Online. This cleanup only concerns the account(s) you have created for www.acs.org.

Q: What happens if I don’t log in to www.acs.org in the next month?

A: We will delete your existing account, but you will be able to create a new one when you visit the site. Please note that if you choose not to log in now, your current user name may not be available.

Q: Will I continue to receive the weekly www.acs.org newsletter?

A: Your www.acs.org account must be active to receive the newsletter. For uninterrupted delivery, you must login to reactivate your account.

Q: If I log in now or choose not to, is there any impact on my ACS membership?

A: Creating a www.acs.org account does not affect your membership or membership term. We encourage members to create and use a www.acs.org account so that they can take advantage of the following benefits:

  • participate in the ACS Member Network when it launches later this year
  • manage your member record in real time
  • renew your membership online
  • register for short courses and conferences
  • sign up for our weekly email newsletter. (Please note: you must have an active account on www.acs.org to receive this newsletter.)
  • shop at our online store
  • access our salary comparison tool

Q: What is the impact on my ACS membership?

A: Nothing. This clean up involves your www.acs.org account and not your ACS membership. Creating a www.acs.org account does not affect your membership term. We encourage members to create and use a www.acs.org account so that they can take advantage of member services available at the www.acs.org site.

Q: I’d like to log in but I can’t get my temporary password.

A: Our system requires an exact match to the email address we have on file for you. Our customer service team is happy to verify the address we have. If that’s not the problem, please check your spam filter and enable receipt of messages from webmaster@acs.org. The subject line of the message that includes your new password is: Your new www.acs.org password
