Register for the Meeting

All attendees, including speakers and poster presenters, must register for the meeting in order to participate in the technical sessions or the exposition. Attendees must display their badge at all times in order to be admitted to all official ACS sessions and events.

Registration for the 235th ACS National Meeting & Exposition will be open between January 7 and April 10, 2008.

Early Registration between January 7 and March 11

Early registration for the national meeting closed on March 11, and registrations or payments received after March 11 will be processed at standard registration rates. U.S. and Canadian attendees who registered by March 11 should receive their badge credentials in the mail before the meeting. International registrants and early registrants who did not receive their badge credentials before the meeting must pick them up at ACS Attendee Registration (Morial Convention Center, Hall B2) during the meeting. Please bring a printout of your e-mail confirmation for faster processing.

Standard Registration between March 12 and April 5

Register at standard registration rates from March 12 to April 5, 2008.

  • All attendees who register after March 11 will need to pick up their credentials (name badge, tickets, etc.) at ACS Attendee Registration during the New Orleans meeting (Morial Convention Center, Hall B2). Please bring your email confirmation for faster processing and to avoid duplicate registrations.
  • Purchase social event tickets and abstract CD-ROMs for onsite pick-up only.
  • Non-members can join ACS and save money immediately with ACS member discounts on registration. Use the online ACS Membership Application to join now or download, complete, and return an ACS Membership Form , wait 3-5 business days to receive your new ACS membership number, and then register for the meeting at your member rate. To receive your meeting discount, you must join the society before you register for the meeting.   • Purchase social event tickets and abstracts for onsite pick up. A limited number of social event tickets and abstracts may be available for purchase at the meeting.
  • Non-members can join ACS and save money on registration. Join ACS before registering for the meeting in order to be eligible for member rates OR Join ACS in person at the Member Resource Booth inside ACS Attendee Registration.

  • Update your registration information before April 2. You will need your badge number and other contact details from your original registration to access this web site.
  • Add social event tickets or abstracts to your existing registration.
  • Request a refund before April 2 in accordance with the ACS Registration & Social Event Cancellation Policies.

Cancel Your Existing Registration

You can cancel your existing registration and social events or request a refund before the meeting before April 2 in accordance with the ACS Registration & Social Event Cancellation Policies.

  • Contact the Registration Call Center by fax or mail to cancel an existing registration or cancel social events. It is not possible to cancel an existing registration through the online registration application or by telephone.
  • Return your unused badge credentials or social event tickets.
  • A $50 administrative fee will be deducted from your refund.

Abstract & Ticketed Events Sales

Abstract Sales

Abstracts of all scientific sessions at the meeting can be purchased in CD-ROM format through Attendee Registration until April 10 or onsite in New Orleans April 6-10. ACS member fee: $50 each; nonmember fee: $75 each. If you are not attending the meeting, you can purchase abstracts only from ACS Office of Society Services, Room 521, 1155 16th St., N.W., Washington, DC 20036; (800) 227-5558. Abstract CD-ROMs and their shipping costs are non-refundable.

  • You can pick-up your abstract CD-ROM at the meeting: A receipt ticket will be issued with your registration credentials, and you must exchange the receipt ticket for an abstract CD-ROM at Attendee Registration during the meeting.
  • You can have your abstract mailed to you if you purchase by March 11: Mailing is available only to U.S. or Canadian residents who pay the additional postage fee of $8.00 per abstract at the time of registration. A street address in U.S. or Canada is required for shipment of the abstract CD-ROM; no abstracts will be mailed to Post Office (P.O.) boxes or outside these countries.

Ticketed Event Sales

Many social and special events will be held by a variety of event organizers during the meeting. Event participation is open to all interested registrants; although some events require that a ticket be purchased in order to participate in the event. All tickets are sold on a first-come, first-sold basis, and ticket sales for specific events will close 24 hours prior to the event. Some event organizers may offer a limited number of tickets for sale at the door of the event (provided that tickets are still available). Cancellations or refund requests must be made by April 2 in accordance with the ACS Social Event Cancellation Policy.

  • You can purchase your tickets online: Event tickets can be purchased through Attendee Registration until April 10. Attendees who purchase after March 12 will need to pick up their tickets at ACS Attendee Registration during the meeting.
  • You can purchase your tickets onsite: Event tickets can be purchased through Attendee Registration during the meeting between April 6 and April 10.

Member Registration

A valid ACS membership number must be entered during registration in order to be able to register as a member and receive your ACS member discount on registration fees. Your registration options will automatically appear in accordance with your current membership status in the ACS membership database. Your ACS membership number can be found on your ACS membership card or your Chemical & Engineering News address label. New Member Registration

Save money by joining ACS and then registering for the meeting at your discounted member registration fee together in sequence. To receive your member fee, you must join the society before you register for the meeting. Using the Internet, you can join ACS utilizing the special online Membership Application and then register for the meeting at your member rate. If they are not completed in sequence, you will need to wait 3-5 business days in order for your official ACS member number to be sent to you and then complete your meeting registration separately. Once you have completed this special Membership Application, you will automatically be forwarded to Attendee Registration for the ACS National Meeting. Your registration options will automatically appear in accordance with your brand-new membership status in the ACS membership database. Specialty Registration Instructions

Press/Media Registration

Press registration is complimentary for credentialed members of the news media (restricted to reporters and editors working full-time for print or broadcast news) who are approved by the ACS Office of Communications. Press badges may be picked up with valid media credentials from the press member’s employer in the Press Room during the meeting.

Exhibitor & Career Fair Employer Registration

Exhibitor registration is handled exclusively through ACS Expositions. Badges must be picked-up onsite with valid photo identification at ACS Exhibitor Registration from Saturday, April 5 through Thursday, April 10 at the Morial Convention Center, Hall D Lobby. ACS Career Fair Employer registration is handled exclusively through ACS Careers. Career Fair ID cards may be picked up Sunday, April 6 through Thursday, April 10 at ACS Career Fair Information in the Morial Convention Center, Hall B1.

Expo-Only Admission

All meeting attendees with a valid badge receive complimentary admittance into the Exposition as part of their registration. Individuals who want to visit the Exposition without registering for the meeting’s technical sessions can register for an Expo-Only badge for $35 or $10 for students with school identification. Register online or in person at ACS Attendee Registration (Morial Convention Center, Hall B2) during the meeting.

Frequently Asked Questions about Registration

When is the early registration deadline?

March 11. If your completed registration form with payment is received (or postmarked if mailed) on or before March 11, you will qualify for the early registration rates. Registrations postmarked on or after March 12 will be processed as registrations at the standard fee.

How should I register for the meeting if I want to attend both ACS and AIChE events in New Orleans?

In 2008, the AIChE Spring National Meeting coincides with the 235th ACS National Meeting & Exposition. For the first time, AIChE and ACS have joined together to co-sponsor symposia at the Spring 2008 meeting in New Orleans. Organizing committees from both organizations have developed symposia/topicals/sessions in subject areas of interest to both societies.

Registered attendees of either society's meeting may attend technical sessions at both the ACS and AIChE meetings. You do not need to register separately for both.

How should I register for the meeting if I am a member of the Clay Minerals Society?

The 45th Annual Meeting of the Clay Minerals Society will be held April 5 - 10, 2008 in New Orleans in conjunction with the ACS national meeting. CMS members can register using online registration, calling the Registration Call Center, or by fax/mail using this special Registration Form for Clay Minerals Society members.

How do I register my guest?

Guests of registrants (spouse or family member of the registering attendee who has no affiliation with the field of chemical science and is not eligible to become an ACS member) must provide their information on the registering attendee’s registration form. Guests may register in advance or on site for a fee. Only one person may register as a guest of each attendee.

Will badges be mailed before the meeting?

YES, registration credentials will be mailed to attendees who register between January 7 and March 11 and provide a U.S. or Canadian mailing address. Registration credentials include your registration badge, event tickets purchased, abstract pick-up card (if applicable), registration receipt, and other national meeting information. Please allow seven to 10 business days for credentials to be mailed. Credentials will be re-issued onsite if changes are made to your registration after your credentials have been processed for mailing. If you need to make changes at the meeting, please bring your packet with you to ACS Attendee Registration at the meeting in New Orleans. Credentials for exhibitors must be picked up onsite at ACS Exhibitor Registration (Morial Convention Center, Hall D).

How do I ensure that my registration rates reflect my current ACS member discount?

Your ACS membership number is required at the start of the registration process in order to receive your ACS member rate. Once you enter your ACS membership number at the start of the meeting registration process, your options will automatically appear in accordance with your current membership status in the ACS membership database. Without your valid membership number, you will not be able to register at member rates.

How do I know whether I am eligible for Retired, Emeritus, or 50-Year Member registration classifications as an ACS member?

Meeting registration options for ACS members are linked to your current status in the ACS membership database. Several registration categories, including Retired (retired 30-year member) Emeritus (retired 35-year member), and 50-Year member (retired 50-year member) are exclusively available to ACS members with those designations in the ACS membership database. How do I get my registration fees waived if I am an unemployed ACS member?

ACS members in good standing who become unemployed and are seeking full-time professional employment are eligible to have their meeting registration fees waived. To be eligible to register for the meeting in the 'Unemployed' category, your ACS membership record must indicate that you are currently in 'unemployed' status and you must enter your ACS membership number at the beginning of the registration process. I think I am an invited speaker. How do I know whether my registration fees are being paid by an ACS technical division or other ACS group?

All participants, including invited speakers, are responsible for their registration fees. Division officers (chair, treasurer, program chair for New Orleans) or committee officers (chair and staff liaison) can make arrangements to pay registration fees directly for their sponsored speakers. In all cases, this payment arrangement must be initiated by the division or committee and not by the individual registrant. If you believe that your registration fee will be paid on your behalf by an ACS group, we strongly recommend that you contact them as early as possible to clarify who is registering you and who is paying your registration fee. If you are unable to reach your symposia chair, program chair, or division/committee chair prior to the meeting to clarify your registration status, you should register yourself for the meeting and seek reimbursement after the event with the sponsoring division or committee. Unfortunately, ACS will not be able to refund your registration fees after April 2, 2008 if the division or committee declines to reimburse you for your registration.
