Experienced educators from the American Chemical Society (ACS), American Physical Society (APS), American Geological Institute (AGI), and the National Association of Biology Teachers (NABT) will present inquiry-based hands-on activities you can use in your classroom to teach science concepts across the curriculum.
Participating teams, composed of a teacher and a science coordinator, will receive $1,000 which may be used toward conducting a local professional development session or purchasing science resources. Participants will also receive books, DVDs, and kits from each science society. Teachers also receive a certificate that may be used to apply for contact hours.
Teams will learn guided inquiry-based science activities at the upper elementary and middle school level as well as science background information. Activities will cover concepts in chemistry, earth science, physics, and biology. Teams will also share teaching strategies and develop plans for implementing a professional development workshop locally.
The workshop for 2008 is now closed. Another workshop will be offered in summer 2009. Check back for dates and location.
