“In high school, I was thinking about engineering, not chemistry, as a career. Through Project SEED I did research in chemical engineering and decided this was very interesting.
I went to my first ACS meeting and presented a poster on the research I had done. It was amazing! I got to talk to professors from great universities and people from industry about my research and the types of jobs I could pursue. The second summer in SEED, I did research in biochemistry, and that showed me that I was really interested in chemistry more than biology.
I made the decision to donate to Project SEED because I believe it is a great program and would like others to have the opportunity to benefit from it such as I have. These programs have had a lasting effect, giving me the confidence to pursue a career in chemistry. And every time I go to an ACS meeting, I bump into other SEED students, so I’ve built a network of friends who have been a support system to me. Now, I’d like to encourage high school students to pursue careers in chemistry. I’ve been accepted into the New York City Teaching Fellows Program and am teaching in the Bronx.”
